European Commission decisions on applications for authorisation

The Commission has granted a total of four authorisations for three uses of Chromium trioxide and one use of Acids generated from chromium trioxide and their oligomers.

15 May 2024 REACH update

Consultations for applications for authorisation

ECHA have launched consultations on one application for authorisation by the CTAC Submission Consortium subgroup (CTACSub 2) covering 12 uses of Chromium trioxide (EC 215-607-8, CAS 1333-82-0):

  • Formulation of mixtures;
  • Functional chrome plating of various components; and
  • Surface treatment for the aerospace/aeronautic industry and for industries other than aerospace/aeronautic industry.

More information about the uses is available on ECHA`s website. This includes the description of the function of the substance, exposure scenarios and possible alternatives identified by the applicants, together with socio-economic information.

New CLP hazard classes will be included in IUCLID

From 29 April 2024, companies can start including information on new hazard classes in their IUCLID dossiers, following the amendment of the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation.

Major release of IUCLID 6 with format changes

Join ECHA`s webinar on 16 May 2024 at 11:00 Helsinki time to learn about IUCLID 6 version 8, released on 29 April.

Authorisation: SEAC updates its approach for recommending review periods

ECHA`s Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) has updated its approach for recommending review periods in its opinions on applications for authorisation. The new approach incorporates developments in opinion and decision-making processes over recent years. For example, substitution plans are now factored in in the evaluation of review periods.

ECHA are looking for comments on the harmonised classification and labelling proposal for:

  • 1,3-diphenylguanidine (EC 203-002-1, CAS 102-06-7)

20 March 2024 - REACH update

Member States plan to evaluate 28 substances in 2024-2026

Based on the Member State Committee's opinion, ECHA adopted and published the Community rolling action plan (CoRAP) for 2024-2026 on 19 March 2024. 
 
Ten substances are planned to be evaluated in 2024, while 18 are listed for 2025 and 2026.

Registrants who need to update their dossiers with new relevant information such as hazard, tonnages, use and exposure, can follow this guide for advice.

Submission of octocrilene restriction report postponed

The submission of the Annex XV restriction report on octocrilene (EC 228-250-8) by France is postponed from 4 October 2024 to 10 January 2025.

Committees' opinions on restrictions

18/10/23 REACH update

ECHA have published the compiled opinion of our Committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) for medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCP) and other substances that contain chloroalkanes with carbon chain lengths within the range from C14 to C17 (EC -).

Submission of 1,4-dioxane restriction report postponed

Germany's submission of the Annex XV restriction report on 1,4-dioxane (EC 204-661-8) is postponed to October 2025.

Compliance date for industrial use only mixtures approaching

From 1 January 2024 all new poison centre notifications must comply with the harmonised information requirements. These include the full chemical composition, the toxicological information, information about the product and the unique formula identifier (UFI) according to Annex VIII to the CLP Regulation. The 1 January 2024 compliance date brings onboard also the mixtures for industrial use only.
