HSENI Safety Alert – Product Recall for 3M Versaflo Intrinsically Safe Powered Air Turbo TR802E presenting a high risk of fire and explosion

Introduction
HSENI have received a Product Recall for 3M Versaflo Intrinsically Safe Powered Air Turbo TR802E (2602-0262). The product has been recalled by the manufacturer due to presenting a high risk of fire and explosion.
Issue
The product presents a risk of fire and explosion because it may contain battery contact pin assemblies that differ from the design validated during the Intrinsic Safety (IS) certification process. This means the product may not perform to its certified level of ignition protection in explosive atmospheres.
The product does not meet the requirements of the Personal Protective Equipment (Enforcement) Regulations 2018 (and thus the Personal Protective Equipment Regulation 2016/425/EU) and The Equipment and Protective Systems Intended for Use in Potentially Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2016 (ATEX).

Corrective Action
The manufacturer has initiated a product recall from end users.
