HSENI is encouraging farmers to share their experiences as part of a new survey aimed at helping make farming safer for everyone.

Later this month some 8,000 randomly selected farmers will be invited by the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) to take part in the online survey.

Rachel Hamill, HSENI’s Principal Agricultural Inspector said it was vital farmers took part to help improve farm safety.

“Farming remains one of the most dangerous industries in Northern Ireland so we need to do everything we can to prevent further deaths and serious injuries. We know the risks farmers face, but we also know that effective farm safety measures must work in the real world.

“That is why we are urging farmers to take part in the survey to share their experiences and views. Their responses will help build the evidence base around farm safety and provide valuable insight into attitudes, behaviours and the practical challenges involved in managing the risks.

“Every response matters. By taking part farmers can help contribute to making farms safer for everyone who works, lives, or visits there,” Rachel added.

The online survey will be issued during the week beginning 21 September and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Responses will be treated in the strictest confidence and analysed anonymously. Participants can also choose to enter a prize draw for a £50 eVoucher.

The survey is being conducted by AFBI as part of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs’ (DAERA) Evidence and Innovation Research Programme.
