HSENI Safety Alert - Domino supplied DPX extraction units
Issue
HSENI have been informed of potential problems with Domino supplied DPX extractions units.
Owners, users and other persons supplying, inspecting and maintaining DPX extraction units are being alerted to the risk of fire within the unit.
In certain specific operating environments (where the coding effected by the laser equipment is made onto paper label and / or cardboard substrates that are small enough such that they are at risk of being drawn into the DPX extractor) the Domino supplied DPX units may suck in the ignited items into the filter(s) contained within those DPX Extraction Units. If any such ignited items pass into the DPX Extraction Unit then there is a risk of fire.
Affected Products
All versions of the Domino supplied DPX extraction units, including:
- DPX350
- DPX500
- DPX1000
- DPX1500
- DPX2000
- DPX3100
- DPX3300
- DPX3401
- DPX3500
Action required
Corrective measures
If any Domino supplied DPX extraction units are to be used in an environment where the fumes and / or waste derived from the laser coding are generated such coding onto such paper label and / or cardboard substrates that are at the risk of being drawn into the extractor, then you must arrange for a suitable spark arrestor to be installed between each extraction unit and the laser coder, in order that any paper label or small cardboard substrates are prevented from passing into the DPX extraction unit. Pending the installation of such a spark arrestor you must be extra vigilant to continuously ensure your rigid adherence to the cleaning and maintenance requirements.
