Domestic asbestos waste - disposal options

The following page lists sites licensed to accept asbestos waste

Please note that information is correct at time of writing. The current status of sites can be checked with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.

The organisations listed below operate waste transfer sites that are licensed by Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) to accept hazardous waste. They will normally accept asbestos waste from householders that is double bagged/wrapped and sealed in heavy duty polythene. They will also collect appropriately wrapped asbestos waste from domestic properties but will add a haulage fee and a consignment note/administration fee in respect of paperwork that must be submitted to the NIEA.

Current disposal charges can be confirmed by contacting the companies.

Householders in Belfast City Council (BCC) area only
BCC have a free collection service for small amounts (up to 120kg) of domestic asbestos waste. They will assess each case on its merits. If waste has been generated by a contractor during work on the property they will not normally collect and will refer caller to a commercial waste contractor.
tel: 0800 032 8100 or 028 9027 0656.
BCC will send out appropriate waste bags for householder to double wrap the asbestos waste before collection by their staff. We are not aware of any other Council in Northern Ireland that provide this service.
