HSENI gifts and hospitality register 2024-25

HSENI recognises that contractors and other customers of our services may extend, from time to time, offers of gifts and hospitality to staff. The organisation also recognises that its employees have a responsibility, in the interests of public confidence, to exhibit high standards of propriety, and carry out their role with dedication and a commitment to the Civil Service and its core values: integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality.

Below you will find details of the HSENI gifts and hospitality register for the financial year 2024-25.

Quarter 1

21 May 2024

HSENI Inspector, Lee Dougan received a gift from a deceased persons family as a token of gratitude. The gift was estimated to the value of £15. The gift was accepted and approved by Deputy Chief Executive Nicola Monson.

HSENI Inspector, Lee Dougan received a gift from a deceased persons family as a token of gratitude. The gift was cash to the value of £100.  The gift was not accepted as cash gifts are not in line with HSENI’s and NI Civil Service Policy regarding gifts and hospitality, this was approved by Deputy Chief Executive Nicola Monson.

The register was approved and signed by the ARMC Chair at the ARMC meeting on 20 June 2024.

Quarter 3

3 October 2024

HSENI Principal Inspector, Camilla Mackey received 2 x £100 gift vouchers from Gas Networks Ireland for participating on a panel to advise farmers on safety around gas pipelines.  The gift was returned to protect public confidence in HSENI and to avoid perceptions of favouritism or bias approved by Deputy Chief Executive Dr Bryan Monson.

7 November 2024

Deputy Chief Executive, Louis Burns received a gift of biscuits from Northern Ireland Safety Group (NISG) for his presentation at the NISG Annual Conference.  The gift was estimated at the value of £15.  The gift was accepted as it was considered ‘trivial’ and the value was below the £50 threshold, no approval required.

21 November 2024

HSENI Principal Inspector, Sean Keogh received the gift of a book from Mutual Energy for his presentation at the Mutual Energy Conference.  The gift was estimated at the value of £20.  The gift was accepted as it was considered ‘trivial’ and the value was below the £50 threshold, no approval needed.

The register was approved and signed by the ARMC chair at the ARMC meeting on 16th January 2025.
