Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU

Introduction

This Directive applies to lifts installed in buildings and constructions and to the safety components used in such lifts.

Manufacturers of safety components and installers of lifts are obliged to assess all hazards which apply to their products and then design and construct the lifts according to this assessment.

The manufacturer must provide technical documentation for the lift and its components.

Safe products must bear the CE conformity marking in order to be permitted to be freely circulated in the EU market whilst unsafe products will be prevented from being imported.

The Directive establishes a conformity assessment procedure for manufacturers of lifts and components and rules for the national authorities in charge of supervising their market access.
