The Ionising Radiations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017 are supported by a Health and Safety Executive for Great Britain Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) ‘Work with Ionising Radiation, Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 which is approved for use in Northern Ireland. The ACOP and guidance have now been updated in line with the equivalent GB Regulations, the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.

In accordance with Article 18 of the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland, with the consent of the Department for the Economy, being the Department concerned, has:-
a) approved the Health and Safety Executive Code of Practice entitled:
“Work with ionising radiation, Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017” (Second edition, 2018, L121).
The Code of Practice can be read across to give practical guidance on the Ionising Radiations Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017, and
b) withdrawn its approval of the Code of Practice entitled:
“Work with ionising radiation, Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 Approved Code of Practice and guidance” (First edition, 1999, L121),which will be replaced by the revised publication.
The approval and withdrawal will come into effect on 1 May 2018.
