Chairperson to the Board of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland

Date published: 08 September 2016

DfE is seeking to appoint a new Chairperson to the Board of the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), an executive Non-Departmental Public Body with Crown status. This is a rewarding and important role.

Application Process

HSENI’s vision is to achieve world-class performance in workplace health and safety and therefore improve the overall economic and social well being of our community. HSENI's headquarters is in Ladas Drive, Belfast.

The appointment is effective from 1 April 2017 although there will be the opportunity to ‘shadow’ the outgoing Chair with effect from 1 January 2017.  The term of appointment will be for three years.

DfE particularly welcome applications from women, people with a disability and those from ethnic minorities as these are currently under-represented on the Board.

DfE is also operating the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for applicants with a disability.

The time commitment normally amounts to 1.5 days per week or equivalent and remuneration amounts to £19,245 per annum from 1 April 2017. (Remuneration during any shadow period will reflect the actual time commitment made). All reasonable receipted dependant carer expenses will also be reimbursed where applicable.

No academic qualifications are required for the post. Appointment will be made on merit from those individuals who best satisfy four essential criteria. Please note that skills and experience in Health and Safety management, whilst valuable, are not essential and will not be a criterion for appointment.
