HSENI announces its Waste Management Industry Student Ambassador Awards

Health and Safety Executive Northern Ireland (HSENI) is continuing to support the Waste Industry Safety and Health Forum Northern Ireland (WISHNI) annual Student Ambassador Awards.

This year, WISHNI presented their annual Student Ambassador Awards virtually on Wednesday 28th April 2021. Students were tasked to prepare a paper titled ‘Controlling the hazards and risks associated with powerful machinery used in the waste industry’.

The worthy winner- Jordan McKee, a 2nd year Environmental Health Student at the University of Ulster Jordanstown, was presented with the first place winner’s prize, generously sponsored by McKinstry Skip Hire Limited. Second place was awarded to Rachel Marks. Jordan presented an overview of her paper to WISHNI Members including representatives from professional associations, recycling organisations, and national and local government bodies involved in waste management and recycling.

As an active member of WISHNI, HSENI continues to support the forum and provide an advisory role to help improve health and safety practices throughout the industry. Providing the keynote speech at the event was HSENIs Chief Executive- Robert Kidd, who presented Jordan with her award, and he congratulated the Students on their achievement and commented on the resilience and work of the Industry through recent challenging times.
